Thoracic Extension 2

This move is a progression from the thoracic extension with arms assisting.

In that first one, we used the arms to help us press the chest up into an extension.

iNSTRUCTIONS:

  1. In this progression, we take the arms out.

    • Now you have to rely on the strength of the extensor muscles in the spine. These muscles are on either side of the spine and they help curve that back upward.

    • As we sit, hunched over in our chairs, these extensor muscles lengthen and get weaker. So most of us will feel this to be a challenging move.

  2. Remember that you don't want to crane your neck up on this. Keep the chin lightly tucked down and find length through the back of your skull. Imagine your heart lifting up off the floor. As you do, take note of the ribs you can lift off in the front.

    • As you perfect this exercise, you will be able to lift more ribs off. Perhaps lifting them all!!!
